September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Blood Cancer Awareness MonthSeptember often signals and end to summer and a quickly-approaching autumn. But the month also marks an effort to bring attention to cancers of the blood, bone marrow and lymph nodes through an online messaging drive known as Blood Cancer Awareness Month.

According to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, nearly 1.3 million people in the U.S. are living with or are in remission from leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Blood Cancer Awareness Month is intended to help spread the word about leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and to educate the public on current treatments, symptoms and research and development.

At GoPath, we are committed to creating diagnostics specifically with cancer patients in mind. Our hematopathology division includes the latest technology platforms including chromosome analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridication (FISH), flow cytometry (immunophenotyping) and microarray analysis. One of our most recent developments is our BCR/ABL1 fusion gene (Philadelphia chromosome) quantitative analysis to monitor disease course and treatment response for CML patients (learn more here).
